This film will document the life and creative works of poet, polyartist, sonosopher, scholar, teacher, mentor...Alex Caldiero. We finally have a website up!!!
Check it out:

It is a bit slim on content right now, but keep checking back. In the next couple of weeks you can expect to see a trailer, photos, screenshots, video, links, and more. We will also have a web store at some point in the future to sell DVDs of the film. Also please check back here on the blog, on Facebook (facebook.com/thesonosopher), and on Twitter (@thesonosopher) for continuous news updates, links to reviews/articles, etc. We will also have a YouTube site up soon to post the trailer, other short clips from the film, as well as stuff that we cut from the film...so look out for that.

Many, many thanks to Mr. Jason Grotegut for getting the site up and running!!!

Editing daily

The editors of The Sonosopher are working every day. There are some arguments as to who sits in which chair most often, but otherwise, they are often in agreement.

Finals Week

After finals week, we will have more news about the progress on the film, The Sonosopher. Please stand by.

Translating and Screening Plans for Italy

The clip we showed at the Integrated Studies Open House and Outstanding Thesis Awards is currently being translated into Italian, by Alex.

This is a 7-minute section...and will be sent to the University of Catania so the people at the university can view and and approve a screening in the summer, and so that Alex can screen it there in August, in conjunction with a performance that he's going to be doing there.

By August (when Alex screens it) we'll hopefully have it professionally translated into Italian
2009
this year.

At the Integrated Studies Open House, Presentation

Travis Low and Torben Bernhard were among four students selected from the 700 graduates of the Integrated Studies program at UVU, chosen to present at the Integrated Studies Open House and Outstanding Thesis Awards on April 20, 2009.

They explained the selection of their senior thesis, The Sonosopher, treating us with a 7 minute clip. About the film clip, let me just say,I forgot I was watching a film. I had seen some of this footage before, but it was more engrossing in this new format. I'm really looking forward to the next screening.

Morale is High

I have been impressed by the editing process and collaboration between The Sonosopher Crew. On Monday, I witnessed Torben and Travis high-five over agreeing on the arrangement and cutting of footage. They told me not to post it, but I thought it really shows that morale is high in the Sonosopher camp.

Sonosopher Filmmakers Chosen as Presenters

The Sonosopher filmmakers will be among choice presenters at the Integrated Studies Open House and Outstanding Thesis Awards. Open to the Public.
Monday, April 20th | 5th floor of the library, North end
2:30 | Open House & Refreshments

Sonosopher Update - November 19th

Friends,

After one year of filming in Utah, New York City, and Italy, we are hard at work editing The Sonosopher. Filming in so many locations has provided us with a wealth of footage covering Alex's life, performances, and methods. We are getting anxious to share it with all of you and expect to hold our first screenings by this May. We will soon be launching our website to host trailers, updates, clips, and press that our film receives. We'd like to thank everybody for your continued support, and to remind you to continue to visit our blog for weekly updates at: http://thesonosopher.blogspot.com

Until later,
The Sonsopher crew

Quick Update

Hello.

It has been some time since we last updated.
We have been doing a lot lately, despite our absence on this blog.

This is what we've been doing over the past few weeks:

-Capturing all of our footage onto our hard drives (which has to be done in 15 minute intervals, in real-time), so that has been eating away at our time. That means we are still in the initial phases of the long, long process of editing...mostly capturing footage, cutting things that we don't like and/or know won't work in the film, and conceptualizing how the film is going to be composed from what we have, and then determining what we can and should still get on film.
-Filming the last few performances, interviews (etc.) with Alex...we'll wrap up all the filming by September/early-October (hopefully).
-Continuing to film a long list of interviews with Alex's family, friends, enemies, fellow poets, and colleagues.
-Working on preserving/digitizing many of Alex's written and visual works, both for general archival, and for use in our film.
-Being very picky, slow to make decisions, and anal about The Sonosopher Website ...which is why it hasn't been updated to how it is really going to look yet. Let's all thank Eleanor for being patient and helping us out so much.

Very soon we will have some clips to show, as well as an 'official trailer' for the film, so keep checking back.

Here is a link to the very, very beginnings (it is pretty much still empty right now) of a website we are working on: http://www.thesonosopher.com

Keep an eye on it. This website will host Alex's main site. It will also be the official website for our film, and will be an integral part of our ongoing effort to archive Alex's work.

home!

safe and sound.
we had an amazing trip. very much an understatement.

i'll be posting the rest of the postcards within a day or two, along with a more in-depth retrospective summary and update on the trip.

it went better than we could have ever imagined, and we are feeling very confident in the footage that we got. we are going to start going through footage and editing after a good 7-10 days...a much needed time away from the project for recuperation and perspective.

we ended up with over a thousand photographs, over 30 hours of digital video, and roughly 30-45 minutes of 8MM film footage...covering public performances, interviews (with Alex and his friends/family), spontaneous/sonosophical performatives, 'trans-environmental' performances, geo-poesis, new york/italy/sicily landscapes and cityscapes, etc.!

more on all of this and where we are headed next...later.
